1927 Earthquake of China

In 1927, an earthquake of 7.9 magnitude shattered the entire base of the Xining state. It caused a death toll of over 40,000 people. It also led to great land cracking and other destructions. Thousands of edifices were ruined in this earthquake. Over 500 schools and office buildings were also damaged.

The epicenter intensity was magnitude 11 and the focal depth was around 10 miles deep. The ground was split emitting black waters and sulfur gases when the quake occurred.
