Alaska Earthquake

Alaska has a lot of earthquakes and that is why it is studied, like California, a lot. You can get Alaskan siesmology information here http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/

One of the most damaging earthquakes, in Alaska, was in 1964, in Anchorage. The earthquake was the third most powerful ever recorded by seismograph (magnitude 9.2). The quake produced liquefaction and tsunamis.

It is estimated that nine people died during the five minutes of ground shaking. Another 121 people died from tsunamis in Calfornia, Oregon, and Alaska. Property damage was estimated at 300 million. In todays dollars, that would be over two billion.
