Costa Rica EarthquakeA recent earthquake with magnitude of 6.1 happened in Costa Rica, on January 8, 2009. The quake stranded more than 1,200 people and put more than a thousand people in shelters. Thirteen people died, and many more were wounded (src: CNN). The Geological Survey placed the earthquake's epicenter at 20 miles (32 kilometers) north-northwest of San Jose at a depth of 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers).
