Earthquake StoryThe ground shook beneath me. I ran for the door, but ended up falling to the floor. I rolled quickly under the table just as a piece of the ceiling fell. I heard some loud noises of various things crashing to the floor. I sat there for a minute or two while the ground shook and I wondered how I would survive. My next immediate thoughts were to look for my family. I wondered if they would be so lucky. To my surprise, my wife had slid under the bed and was not hurt. Some tiles from the roof had caved in part of the house and I was pretty worried. I found my two boys outside in the backyard. They had been playing soccer. The house was pretty much as disaster, but I felt grateful that we were all in good shape. I thanked God for sparing our lives. Then, I grabbed our 72 hour kits and went to the local shelter. The roads were jam packed and in ruins, so we walked to where we needed to go. We knew the way because we had an emergency radio in our 72 hour kit. When we got to the temporary shelter, we noticed how everyone looked a little scared and worried about things. In the end, our insurance covered our home damages and we were able to rebuild. To this day, we are grateful for our 72 hour kits and the earthquake family training we had done in the home previously. To anyone in Alaska, California, or Nevada, please make sure you have a good 72 hour kit and go over an emergency safety plan with your family.
