Earthquakes InformationThe largest earthquake of all time occurred in Chile. It was a 9.5 on the Richter Scale. The most powerful earthquakes are caused by subduction. Earthquakes can also be caused by two plates slipping past one another (slip slip) or one plate fallin on top of another (slip dip) or two plates can just bump into one another (strike slip). When one of the plates has an upward thrust that is deep it is called a blind thrust because you can't see it. Predictability of earthquakes is much improving, but is still not very good. Seismologists still need more information about the internal mapping of the earth; deeply.
