Italy Earthquake

Near Rome, in the town of L'Aquila, on April 6, 2009, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck. It displaced thousands of people. Approximately 30,000 to 40,000 homes were destroyed (CNN). Around another 150 people died and approximately 1500 people were injured (CNN).

Relatively unknown seismologist, Giampaolo Giuliani, predicted the earthquake before it happened using the radon forecasting method. He went so far that he posted a warning on YouTube before the quake happened. You can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WieaAPrQEN4

You can also see the damage that was produced by the quake here http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7984867.stm
