Loma Prieta Earthquake

Do you remember the World Series on October 17, 1989? This was the day of the Loma Prieta Earthquake that killed 63 people, injured 3-4 thousand people, and left around ten thousand people homeless.

The quake is named after the nearby Loma Prieta mountains where the epicenter occurred.

The quake was predicted by retired seismologist Jim Berklund of the U.S. Geological Survey four days before the event (src: wikipedia). He based his prediction on tides, animal behavior, and gravitational pull. Here is a video so that you can see what he looks like. In the video, he is actually predicting other earthquakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODD8lYc2wCY

Watch footage of the actual Loma Prieta Earthquake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW-TkpvKPl0

An interesting thing about the Loma Prieta Earthquake is that background magnetic fields in the low frequency range were up to twenty times higher than average the two weeks before the earthquake and then increased to sixty times a few hours before the main shock (src: wikipedia).
