New Madrid EarthquakeIn 1811-1812, New Madrid, Missouri had a very large earthquake. The unique thing about this earthquake is how far the area was that was affected. The basis of the surrounding area was (600,000 kilometers) and the widespread area was 5,000,000 square kilometers. To put it in perspective, the New Madrid Earthquake was ten times larger than the San Franscisco Earthquake of 1906. There were four quakes. The first two were in Arkansas and the last two were in Missouri. For further information, please visit http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/states/events/1811-1812.php
