Tokyo Earthquake

In 1923, Toyko had a very devastating earthquake. It was an 8.3 on the Richter Scale. It was because the population density was so great in the area that there were over 100,000 deaths and another 40,000 people missing. The Tokyo earthquake is also known as the Great Kanto Earthquake.

Like most other major earthquakes, there were large fires that destroyed much of the city and people. To see images of the earthquake, please visit http://www.eas.slu.edu/Earthquake_Center/1923EQ/
