What is an Earthquake on the Moon Called?

The moon has moonquakes. The earth has earthquakes. It makes sense doesn't it.

The astronauts have placed seismometers on the moon and it is confirmed that moonquakes exist. It is believed by many scientists that the effect of the earth on the moon create these moonquakes. The closer the earth gets to the moon the more chance that the moon will have a moonquake.

It is a source of controversy whether the moon has an effect on the earth seismic patterns. Some Geologists contend that the moon is too small to have an effect. Others, think that the effects of the tides rising when the moon is close to the earth, is proof enough that the mantle would then have to get pulled harder on as well. This additional force could produce more earthquakes; some scientists think.

To find the effects, scientists can plot the occurrence of high tides and full moons with earthquake activity.
