Where do Earthquakes Occur? The edges of the seven major tectonic plates. They also occur along fault lines. The occur more rapidly where there is a lot of seismic movement. That is why seismologists keep track of all the earthquakes in an area; even those imperceptible to humans. Some of the hot spots of activity are Alaska, California, Chile, China, Japan, and Italy.
